The Who - 1979- #2: As promised way back on December 8, here's part 2 of our Same Tour, Different Show set featuring The Who in 1979. As 1979 drew to a close, Paul McCartney organized a series of concerts at the Hammersmith Odeon in London, to raise money for the victims of war torn Camboda. Dubbed the Concerts for the People of Kampuchea, the 4 shows, from January 26 to 29, featured Queen, The Clash, The Pretenders, The Who, Elvis Costello, Rockpile and Wings, just to name a few of the acts that performed. The penultimate night, December 28, 1979, 4 decades  ago today, as captured in this soundboard recording, featured The Who, completing their first year of touring with Kenny Jones on drums, who had replaced Keith Moon.  Moon had passed away just a little over a year earlier from an overdose.

it would be nice if you had some sort of sound rating system

thanks for the who post Speedy, Cant believe the comment above, the music is after all free. in fact you usually tell us if the recording is below your usual standard and only post them if they have a historical signifigance , If the above person wants perfect sound he should get an official release and all of the overdubs and edits that go with it. Don't let comments like that get you down. Great Blog

Thanks for the kind words. I don't believe in rating scales because sound is subjective What I think sounds like a 10 someone else might say is a 7 or vice versa

Amen brother, totally agree, Would much rather hear warts and all in fact some audience recordings even though the bands sound may not be as chrystal clear they more than make up for it in atmosphere good audience recordings of course. Listen to most shows taped my Dan the man Lampinski or Mike the mic Millard and hear how a truly great audience show can sound. actuallyprefer them to many soundboards. Most officials sound too perfect to be real full of overdubs and other studio trickery

This show sounds great, raw soundboard as all live CDs should be with warts and all and best of all no overdubs, you can hear the audience quite well as well as the mistakes, flubs ecc after all it is live. Some audience recordings by Dan Lampinski and Mike Millard sound even better than a lot of soundboards, Dan the man taped a couple Who shows back in 75 that sound better than a soundboard as for Millard he is responsible for several great stones and Zep shows from 75 as well as a great Pink Floyd show from 75 ,his recording of the 6/21/77 forum show also known as listen to this eddie is legendary , Both of those guys really knew what they were doing , Most of the officials are nothing but studio recreations e Zeps HYWWW which sounds so perfect it could be a studio album which isn't suprising seeing as how much time Jimmy Page and his engineer Kevin Shirley spent in the studio working on the tapes , editing songs, as well as most of Plants banter from the album . Why cant the powers that be ever get it. Live should mean live period , Thanks again Speedy for keeping the music real
