For 3 years, from 1968 to 1971, the Fillmore East in New York (along with its companion venue, the Fillmore West in San Francisco) established itself as the premier rock venue in the United States. Run by Bill Graham, who often booked triple bills with 2 shows a night, and dubbed the “Church of Rock & Roll”, the 2700 seat Fillmore East hosted almost every major musical act of the day. Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, The Who, The Led Zeppelin, The Grateful Dead, CSNY, John Lennon, The Byrds, Derek and The Dominoes, and Jefferson Airplane, just to name a few, all played the Fillmore. At least 40 different live albums were recorded at venue, including the Allman Brother’s legendary At The Fillmore East double disc. In fact, the Allman Brothers played so many shows at the Fillmore East, that they were nicknamed “Bill Graham’s House band”. Perhaps that’s why, when Graham made the decision to close the Fillmore East in June 1971 due to economic pressures from larger concert arenas, (he’d close its sister site just a few weeks later), he chose the Allmans to headline the last 3 concerts at the venue. Albert King and The J. Geil’s Band served as the lead in bands for all 3 shows. On the last night, June 27, 1971, 4 dozen years ago today, they were also joined by special guests the Beach Boys, Country Joe McDonald, Edgar Winter's White Trash, and Mountain. The marquee outside the Fillmore East for that last show proclaimed “that’s all folks”, stealing a line from Porky Pig. It truly was the end of an era. Not sure if you know this, but this concert has been officially released by the Allman Brothers as part of the Deluxe version of Eat A Peach. The entire show is on disc 2.

Sorry that you had to take it down Speedy, hope they didnt mess with it in the studio, tou know what i mean those inevidable overdubs and edits. They totally messed up the Bowie Nassau 76 official by cutting out the drum solo on panic in Detroit as well as reducing the audience in the mix which lessened the exitement of the live show. Was this part of the legendarry filmore shows that made up their classic album from the earlly 70s? Thanks again
This was closing night at the Fillmore and was released as part of the Deluxe version of Eat A Peach. . The legendary Live at the Fillmore East album was recorded 3 months earlier on March 12 & 13, 1971.
The eat a peach special edition does appear to have this show but the encore of you dont love me as well as the Bill Graham outro appear to be edited out . those record companies again, at least they arent listed on the CD sleeve . Do you know if the super deluxe edition that i keep hearing about has been released yet and if so how much, supposedly contains all the shows from march 11 thru the 13th in proper show and song order. if that is the case maybe the artists and record companies are finally listening to all of the complaining by us purists as to how live shows should be released. Any light you could shed would be appreciated Allman's rule, thanks

The 1971 Fillmore East Recordings was released on July 29, 2014.
