In late May 1975, Elvis Presley launched a tour of the deep South that would run until June 10. The tour would include stops in Alabama, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee. This soundboard recording captures him early on in that run, in Tuscaloosa on June 3, 1975, 44 years ago today. While the press noted that the King's shows seemed more upbeat, and his waistline appeared slimmer, Elvis wss still battling the demons that would end his life just 2 years later. He was His dependence of prescription pain killers had increased, often leaving him unable to perform In August, his Las Vegas residency would end prematurely when he needed to be hospitalized. It was a hrbinger of the tragedy to come.

- According to Greg's autobiography, My Cross To Bear, one day when he was growing up his. mother came home and said, ‘this deliveryman came in, and he looked funny. He had one of them riverboat haircuts, and his name was Elvis.’ Sure enough, he came on the TV, and Mom said, ‘that’s him – that’s Elvis!" The delivery boy was the one and only Elvis Presley.
