Gov't Mule - 1996-06-07 - Chicago IL (SBD)

In 1994, Warren Haynes and bassist Allen Woody of The Allman Brothers launched a side project called Gov’t Mule. Haynes and Woody, who were fans of power trios such as Cream and the Jimi Hendrix Experience, recruited Matt Abts to handle the drums. The new band, affectionately known to its fans as The Mule, released their self titled debut album in October 1995. Gov't Mule/Allman Brothers Connections

• Gov't Mule was founded of course, by Allman Brothers Band members Warren Haynes and the late great Allan Woody.
• For most years between 1989 and 2014, Warren did double duty, playing guitar for both the Allmans and Gov't Mule.
• Warren and Greg Allman played numerous duet shows together, including an appearance at Farm Aid in 2007.
