Rock fans often think of the Grateful Dead and Jimmy Buffett in the same breath, but the 2 bands never once shared the same concert bill. Nor did they ever collaborate in the studio. What links them is that both have developed incredibly loyal and devoted followings, fans who traveled with the band from one show to the next, ever ready for the next musical celebration and party. Deadheads arrived to each show clad in tie dye, while for Parrottheads, the dress code of choice was Hawaiian shirts! The two groups of fans in some ways became almost as famous as the musical acts they followed! By the way, in recent years the musical tie between the Dead and Buffett has grown as well, with Jimmy often playing covers of Uncle John's Band and Scarlet Begonias in concert. In fact, this FM broadcast from Foxboro from September 9, 2007, a decade ago today, features the latter tune, which Jimmy introduces as a song for those in the crowd who are part Dead Head and part Parrot Head, and dedicates to Jerry Garcia!
