During the Grateful Dead's hiatus from touring after their "Farewell" concerts at Winterland in October 1974,, Bob Weir joined his long time pal, Matthew Kelly in the band Kingfish. Weir's arrival had two major impacts on the band, which were both a blessing and a curse. First, Kingfish finally got a recording contract, thanks to the Grateful Dead's new label, Round Records. Second, from that point in they were often identified as Bob Weir's backing band. About a dozen years later, when the Dead were again on a break as Jerry Garcia recovered from a diabetic coma, Weir once again joined his old pal Matt Kelly and Kingfish for a series of shows. This soundboard captures Weir and Kingfish in Nevada on September 7, 1986, 31 years ago today.
