Speedy,I am totally devastated ,Tom Petty was a part of my life and music listening experences for as long as i can remember.Like most Damn the Torpedoes introduced me to The heartbreakers around 80 or so and i was hooked,a fan for life.Loved his collaborations and duets with Stevie nicks as well as the travling willburys.Saw Tom at least 5 times over the years and to me he never lost anything with age in fact he seemed to get better ,like a fine wine. His harmonies with Howie Epstein were beautiful .Check out the album Echo,the last album that Howie appeared on before he passed several years ago.To me its a masterpiece of heartache and pain as Tom was going thru a painful divorce and his own Heroin addiction.Tom seemed to find peace in his last few years with his new wife and family .Tom never put himself on a pedestal and was just a regular guy from Gainsville Fla.Knowing his lifes story,his humble beginnings as well as his childhood abuse by his Father only endeared him to the average person.He was one of us.
tom said in a recent interview that he looked forward to slowing down as he wanted to spend more time with family and his new grandchild.Now that wont happen which is the saddest thing about this.RIP Tom, your many fans love and miss you more than you'll ever know,thank you for 40 years of great music

Very sorry for Tom Petty's passing. He wrote some of my favorite songs - he will be missed!
