Believe it or not, I've been to 3 concerts by the Go Gos - once in November 1981 at the Palladium, the just a few months later in January 1982 at Madison Square Garden as the lead-in band for The Police, and then, some 18 years later in July 2000 at the PNC Bank Arts Center sharing the bill with the B52s! What can I say - its a guilty pleasure! When you listen to their first two albums - Beauty & The Beat, released in 1981 which went to #2 on the Billboard charts, and Vacation, released in 1982 which went to #8 on the charts, you simply want to get up and dance. As Nick Lowe would say, its pure pop for now people! This TV soundboard recording captures The Go Gos at their peak, in Newcastle on November 12, 1982, 38 years ago today.
