In May 1975, the Jefferson Starship played a free concert in Central Park before 100,000 fans, a show that we you can find here. Well, seems that the Starship had so much fun with that gig that they decided to do it again the next year! Just 3 days after the bi-centennial, on July 7, 1976, 43 years ago today, Jefferson Starship returned to the Sheep Meadow for another free event, this one hosted by WNEW-FM. Torrential rains plagued the show, but the weather didn’t seem to bother the crowd of 75,000. Jefferson Starship debuted several songs from their latest album, Spitfire, which had been released in June, including Cruisin', Big City, With Your Love, St. Charles and Hot Water. The album would eventually spend 6 weeks at #3 on the Billboard charts.
