Thirty eight years ago, sometime in July 1981, (the exact date is unknown), right before the release of the live album Songs From The Attic, Billy Joel dropped in on Sparks, a nightclub in his native Long Island. According to some sources, Sparks was owned by Billy’s soundman, Brian Ruggles. Though capable of selling out 20,000 set arenas, such as the 5 sold out shows he played at Madison Square Garden in June 1980, Joel seemed to be very comfortable returning to the club scene, even if for one night. He continually banters with the audience, including imitations of Rodney Dangerfield and Joe Cocker. He also has fun singing and playing bits and pieces of songs by other artists, such as Arc of a Diver, Long Distance Runaround, Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me, Ruby Tuesday and I've Got You Under My Skin. This soundboard recording captures the entire show, with the exception of Captain Jack, which has been officially released on the My Lives box set. Unfortunately this is a terrible quality boot; if it's a soundboard recording, it's too bad to be considered one. Great setlist though; hopefully eventually one arises from that tour that's worth listening to. Until then, look to Songs In The Attic Outtakes.
Sorry you didn't enjoy. I listened and thought it was fine otherwise I wouldn't have posted it. Maybe not as crisp as some soundboards, but clear vocals.

YEAH... (As you said in so many words after, there isnt another also.) Is it a Perfect Soundboard Recording? Well, for 30+ years old off cassette, and not a 'tour stop' but a personal stop in to his buddy's bar... an exceptional find for the content.

WOW! Thank you so much for this GREAT and historic concert. I had heard about this gig, but never heard it. Sound quality is just fine. Think about it, it is 30 YEARS OLD and shouldn't even exist anymore. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS AVAILABLE TO ME. As a Billy Joel die-hard fan, this is a gift! You rock!

What a fine post. Thanks so much for sharing. Those off-tour gigs in smaller venues are always something very special because of it's intimate character. And this show with it's 30+ years and ripped off a cassette tape have an absolutely well worth having sound quality if you're a serious collector. Sometimes it's the character of a show what makes it something special or interesting, though there may exist better sounding ones. Some shows bring back memories, some shows only sound good but have not much character. Well, a question of taste anyway. For me this one is fine enough to have it, nothing to moan. So many, many thanks again for sharing. I have never seen or heard of this show before. A very nice surprise.
