Van Morrison entered the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1993, alongside Cream, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Etta James, Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers, Ruth Brown, The Doors and Sly and the Family Stone. Robbie Robertson of The Band made the induction speech for Van The Man, The ever reclusive and unpredictable Morrison failed to appear to accept his award. Some sources say he was actually in the building but snuck out right before he was to come on stage to accept the honor. The Counting Crows performed Caravan in his absence. For many critics and fans, it was the first time they had ever heard of the Counting Crows as the ceremony took place months before the band released their debut LP, August and Everything After.
