JAPAN - As mentioned a few days ago, the middle to late 1970s was a time of change for Santana His music began to move away from the traditional fusion of Latin, jazz, rock and blues toward a more album oriented rock (AOR) sound. That transition began with the album Inner Secrets in 1978, and continued on with Marathon in 1979 and Zeebop in 1981. While those albums produced some outstanding tracks, including, Stormy, Open Invitation, All I Ever Wanted and Winning, Santana’s core fan base questioned the band’s direction. This FM broadcast from October 22, 1979, 41 years ago today, from Budokan (I told you everyone wanted to play there in the late 1970s!) captures Sanatan brining his new AOR sound to the stage.
