ENGLAND - In September 1988, Hurricane Gilbert, one of the most powerful Atlantic storms in recorded history, struck Jamaica, causing widespread devastation across the island. Damages were estimated at over $700 million, About a month later, on October 16, 1988, 32 years ago today, U2 participated in a benefit concert to raise funds to help the island deal with the aftermath of the storm. Their short set, as captured in this FM broadcast, featured their first ever live performance of Angel of Harlem ans saw Keith Richards and Ziggly Marley sitting in.
