James Taylor - 1994-06-20 - Santa Monica, CA (FM)

The year 1967 did not begin well for James Taylor.  His group, The Flying Machine, broke up and he found himslef abandoned in New York, with no money and a herioin addiction,.  Rescued by his father, Taylor returned to North Carolina where he spent 6 months in treatment and recovery.  Late in the year, he decided to pursue a career as a solo artist and moved to London for a change of scenery.  Oncc there, his friend Danny Kortchmar introduced him to Peter Asher. Asher was the head of  A&R for Apple Records, one of the many subdivisons of Apple Corps, the Beatles new holding company. Asher played a demo tape of Taylor's music for Paul McCartney and George Harrison. The two were so impressed that they made Taylor the first non British act signed to Apple Records. His debut album, which he recorded at the same time as the Beatles were recording the White Album, and includes guest appearance by Paul & George on Carolina In My Mind, was released in Dcemeber 1968, just about a year after he made the decssion to move across the pond,  This FM broadcast captures Taylor 27 years after his move, and 28 years ago today, i nDenver on June 20, 1994.
