The first 3 times I saw Jerry Garcia, all in the late 1970s & early 1980s, long time song writing partner Robert Hunter served as his lead in. Hearing Hunter live is always a unique experience, as his take on the countless tunes he wrote with Jerry is often so different than how they sound when played by the Grateful Dead. 

This soundboard recording captures Hunter just 3 months after I saw him (and the Jerry Garcia Band) live for the first time, in Seatlle, on June 23, 1978, 45 years ago today.
