I saw The Band live just twice, both times in 1985. The first concert, in August at Pier 84 in New York, they were the lead in for CSN. The 2nd show, in October, they headlined at one of their favorite venues, the Lone Star Cafe.
This soundboard recording captures The Band 11 years after I saw them, at the Rockpal;ast Open Air festival in Germany, on June 23, 1996, 27 years ago today.

Late summer-1978... Needless to say we all were in a depressing mood. Guy, then, had an idea: "Let's go out to the cinema tonight, there's a new Scorsese movie called "The Last Waltz" featuring Neil Young, The Band and more!" We all went, had a great time and went back home waiting for the bloody curtain falling. It did too. As Alice Cooper was singing it.
