Joan Jett’s concert in Tokyo on December 4, 1982, 31 years ago today, is filled with cover tunes, including Wooly Bully (from Sam The Sham), Bits and Pieces (The Dave Clark Five), and Do You Wanna Touch Me (Gary Glitter), and Rebel Rebel (David Bowie), just to name a few. What many folks may not know, however, is that Jett’s biggest hit, I Love Rock & Roll, is also a cover tune. The song was written in 1975 by Alan Merrill and Jake Hooker, whose band, Arrows, first recorded it. While the arrows version received almost no attention or airplay, Jett’s remake went to #1 on the Billboard charts, where it stayed for 7 weeks,
