This soundboard recording captures Tom Petty in London on December 12, 1982, 31 years ago today, about a month after the release of his 5th album, Long After Dark. In addition to playing You Got Lucky and Straight into Darkness from the new disc, as well as a host of tracks from earlier albums, Petty throws in a cover of Louie Louie. Written in 1956 by Richard Berry, and made famous by The Kingsmen in 1963, Louie Louie is considered the world's most recorded rock song with over 1,600 versions and counting. The version by the Kingsmen was investigated by the FBI for supposed obscene lyrics, though the case was eventually dropped. By the way, if you think that the lyrics were hard to understand on the Kingsmen’s version, Mr. Petty doesn’t do much to make then any clearer!

thanks so much for this great post speedy, got a lot of Petty boots but this is the first that ive seen with Louisiana rain one of his greatest songs, are there any soundboards from his 1987 let me up ive had enough tour, have a couple of average recordings ,Runaway trains was only performed during that tour as for some reason TP didn't like that album , I think the album and especially that song were great, Thanks so much

he toured with the heartbreakers in 1987 right after he spent over a year touring with bob, that was also the year that someone burned down his house , don't let me up, very underated album, even if petty himself hated it, runaway trains,great song, one of his best. makes me tear up everytime I hear it
