Our final post from the initial Farm Aid concert on September 22, 1985, 31 years ago this very day, is an FM broadcast featuring John Fogerty. Fogerty would also appear at Farm Aid in 1997.  While that 2nd Farm Aid show featured John belting out CCR classics, those tunes were no where to be found in his 1985 set. At the time, due to a host of legal disputes with Fantasy Records, his former record company, Fogerty refused to play any Creedence material in concert. While it was disappointing for his fans, you could understand Fogerty’s frustration since one lawsuit accused him of plagiarizing his own music! That case claimed that his solo tune Old Man Down The Road, published by Warner Brothers, stole the chorus from the Creedence song, Run Through The Jungle, published by Fantasy. Fogerty eventually won the case by demonstrating in the court room how he composed songs. Fogerty would once again include CCR tunes his his live performances starting in 1987, when he, Bob Dylan and George Harrison jumped out of the audience at a Taj Maal concert and launched an impromptu jam session.  Dylan, who had never before met Fogerty, told John that he had better play a certain song or people would only remember Tina Turner’s version. Forgerty responded by saying “All right, I’m gonna do this for one reason – Bob Dylan asked me to do it” and broke into the opening notes of Proud Mary! Amazing how that man Dylan's words seem to inspire people to take action whether its to pla a tune or launch a charitable crusade!  By the way - go here to downlaod that amazing Dylan/Harrison/Fogerty performance.
