In 1967, Elton John was still a long way from becoming the musician who at one point in the 1970s was perhaps the best known and best selling rock artist in the world.  Heck, he wasn't even Elton John yet, still going by his birth name of Reginald Dwight as part of a band called Bluesology.  As we saw in our Santana post earlier this month, 1967 was a magical year even for then unknowns. That year, "Reggie" as his band mates called him,  answered an ad in the British magazine New Musical Express, placed by Ray Williams, then the A&R manager for Liberty Records At their first meeting, Williams gave Dwight a stack of lyrics written by Bernie Taupin, who had answered the same ad. Dwight wrote music for the lyrics, and then mailed it to Taupin and the rest as they say is history.  The John/Taupin combination would produce 6 consecutive #1 albums in the 1970s, filled with classic songs such as Rocket Man, Your Song, Daniel, Levon, Tiny Dancer, Bennie and Te Jets, and so on and so on. This soundbaord recording captures Sir Elton, 15 years after meeting Taupin, on June 7, 1992 on Germany, 27 years ago today.
