In July 1966, Eric Clapton left John Mayall & the Blues Breakers to join with Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce to form Cream. The band became renown for their live performances which featured lengthy.psychedelic and blues improvisational jamming that showcased their instrumental skills. In May 1967, right before the Summer Of Love, the band went into the studio in New York to record their 2nd album. That disc, Disraeli Gears, would become yet another of the landmark albums released in 1967. Featuring tunes such as Strange Brew, Tales of Brave Ulysses, SWLABR and Sunshine of Your Love,. Disraeli Gears would eventually reach #4 on the Billboard charts. Accounts differ as to whether or not Cream was invited to play at Monterey Pop.  Most sources say Cream was never considered since the US rock fans knew very little about the band. Clapton claims, however, that they were invited but their manager turned it down hoping to make a bigger splash for ther first headling tour of the US. As mentioned earlier this month, Steve Winwoord, like Clapton was in a new band in 1967, having just left the Spencer Davis Group to join Traffic,. When Clapton and Winwood decided to move  on from Cream and Traffic at the end of 1968, they joined together to form Blind Faith, a short lived union that produced just one album and one tour, but decades of discussion about what would have happened had they stayed together. This high quality audience recording captures EC and SW during one of their 21st century reunion tours, 42 years after the Summer of Love, in Dallas on June 23, 2009, 8 years ago today.
