The Rolling Stones - 1972-06-24 - Ft Worth, TX (SBD)

An0ther major act conspicuous by its absence from the Summer Of Love, was the Rolling Stones. While the single Ruby Tuesday hit #1 on the US charts in March 1967,  the band was mired in personal and legal issues for much of the year.  They had to decline an invitation to play at Monterey Pop because neither Mick Jagger nor Kith Richards could obtain a visa due ti their drug arrests. Brian Jones was at Monterey, not to play, but o introduce Jimi Hendrix.  The band spent most of the year in and out of court trying to fight a variety of charges ofr drug use and possession.  When they finally stopped dealing with legal issues later in the year, they still weren't completely focused on music. The band's attempt at a psychedelic album, Their Santanic Majesties Request, which was released in December 1967, was blasted by critics for being a poor attempt to mimic The Beatle's Sgt Pepper's album. Even Jagger was unhappy with the disc, saying that "There's a lot of rubbish on Satanic Majesties. Just too much time on our hands, too many drugs, no producer to tell us, "Enough already, thank you very much, now can we just get on with this song?" Anyone let loose in the studio will produce stuff like that. There was simply too much hanging around. It's like believing everything you do is great and not having any editing."  The Stones would make up for it in 1968, however,  releasing the critically acclaimed album Beggar's Banquet, that featured Sympathy for the Devil and Street Fighting Man.  In any event, this soundboard recording capture The Stones 5 years after the Summer Of Love, in Fort Worth on June 24, 1972, 45 years ago today.
