We finish our tribute to the Grateful Dead's role in the Summer of Love with this soundboard recording from June 30, 1987, 3 decades ago this very day.  For those of us who are Deadheads, 1987 will always have a special place in our hearts after Jerry made his miraculous recovery from a diabetic coma. No, the band was not at its technically finest that year, especially since Garcia had to re-teach himself how to play guitar. The mood at every show, however, was a joyous celebration, as we all knew  that Jerry, the band and all of us had been granted a 2nd lease on life. I went to 8 shows that year, including my all time favorite on September 18, and I'm not sure I ever saw the crowds happier and more appreciative then during those concerts. Maybe the spirit of 1967 was still with us.  After all, its seems like a bit more than coincidence that my 2 favorite years in Dead history, 1977 and 1987, were the 10th and 20th anniversaries of the Summer of Love!
