The Grateful Dead's 1977 spring tour, which began on April 22 in Philadelphia and ended on June 9 at Winterland in San Francisco, is considered by many to be the pinnacle of the band's career. The Dead have released 6 live albums featuring 9 shows from that run, including a 9 disc set that captures the 3 nights at Winterland that closed the tour. In addition, the show that many feel is their best ever, from Barton Hall on May 8 (more on that tin a few days!) was part of that tour. This soundboard recording from May 4, 1977, 3 dozen years ago today, captures the band at the last of 8 nights in the NY/NJ area - 3 shows at the Capitol Theatre in Passaic, NJ followed by 5 nights at the Palladium in NY. Download this one to kick start our tribute to this tour, then keep coming back to So Many Roads for at least a 1/2 dozen more shows from this historic run.
