As long time reader so this blog know, I have often ranted and raved about the quality of officially released live albums. I've been highly critical of the decisions by record companies to mix tunes from multiple concerts, add studio overdubs, and generally portray their version of reality, as opposed to just presenting a concert as it truly took place. I've also sung the praises of the Grateful Dead, who with the Dick's Picks, and now Dave's Picks, series of official releases have, for the most part. given fans full concerts, straight from the master tapes, warts and all, presenting the band exactly as those in attendance heard them. Yet even the Dead have had some missteps with their official releases.  For example, Dick's Picks #3 featured the band's May 22, 1977 concert from 3 dozen years ago today in Pembroke Pines, FL. In order to keep the release as a double CD set, however, 8 songs from that show were not included, an unfortunate decision. Fortunately, soundboard tapes from that show do circulate so we do have access to the missing songs.  That's what we have here for you today - the 8 unreleased tunes - and only those tunes - from that historic Spring 1977 performance.  Download these songs, buy Dick's Picks #3 if you don't already have it, combine the sources per the set list above, and you'll have the complete show!
