With today's post, we return to The Grateful Dead's 1977 spring tour, for the start of a 3 show run that many believe is the pinnacle of a tour filled with exceptional performances. The May 8 show from Barton Hall on the campus of Cornell is often considered the band's best ever single performance (more on that tomorrow!). Many Dead Head's feel, however, that the playing on the night before, this show from May 7 in Boston, and the night after, May 9 from Buffalo, was just as passionate, inspired and innovative, Incredibly, despite the plethora of official releases from the Spring 1977 tour, none of the 3Bs - Boston, Barton Hall or Buffalo - is among them! Fortunately we have soundboard recordings of all of those shows, which we'll post over the next 3 days. Here's the May 7, 1977 Boston show, which took place 36 years ago today, to start. Download this one now, then come back for the other 2 - they are must haves for every one's collection, even if you're not a Dead Head.
