Here's our 2nd of 4 Grateful Dead shows today. This one is a soundboard recording from San Diego from July 1, 1980, 35 years ago today.

1980 in Grateful Dead History:

• Marked the band’s 15th anniversary 
• In the fall, the band played runs at the Warfield Theater (15 shows) in San Francisco, The Saenger Theatre (2 shows) in New Orleans and Radio City Music Hall (8 shows) in New Yor, where each night opened with an acoustic set, followed by 2 electric sets. The last night at Radio City, on October 31was broadcast on closed circuit TV. These 3 runs would spawn the live albums Reckoning and Dead Set, which were released in 1981. 
• The band released the studio album Go To Heaven, the first to feature new keyboard player Brent Mydland. They would not release another studio album until 1987. 
• The band appears on Saturday Night Live on April 5, playing Alabama Getaway and Saint Of Circumstance from Go To Heaven.
• Former keyboard player Keith Godchaux dies in a car accident in Marin County, CA at age 32
• Live shows from 1980 that were later officially released include May 6, May 7, September 3 and November 30, as well as 2 Jerry Garcia Band shows from February 28 and May 1.
