Bassist Phil Lesh may have seemed like the least likely member of the band to launch a solo career after the death of Jerry Garcia, but he’s been on the road now since 1998. That year, he began playing under the moniker Phil Lesh and Friends. Over the years, the friends have included a virtual who’s who of rock and roll, including Jorma Kaukonen, Trey Anastasio, John Molo, Warren Haynes, Jimmy Herring, Joan Osborne, Derek Trucks, and Susan Tedeschi, just to name a few. The 2001 version of the band, captured in this soundboard recording from July 7, 2001, 14 years ago today, included Haynes, Herring, Molo and Rob Barraco.
