1988 in Grateful Dead History
- The band releases Dylan and The Dead, an album of live tracks from the historic 1987 concerts with Mr. Zimmerman.
- On September 3, the Dead played an electric version of Ripple as an encore, the first time the band had played the tune since October 16, 1981, a span of 459 shows. The band was fulfilling the request made by a terminally ill patient through the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
- In September, the Dead play a then record 9 might run at Madison Square Garden in New York. The last night is a benefit concert for the Rainforest that features special guests Bruce Hornsby, Hall & Oates, Mick Taylor and Suzanne Vega.
- Live shows from 1988 that were later officially released include March 27, March 31 and April 1.
